2026 World Cup: Super Eagles play friendly match between Jordan and Iran after FIFA's decision

Nigeria's Super Eagles are reportedly set to face Jordan and Iran in upcoming international friendlies. However, both matches are subject to an important decision by FIFA on Nigeria's World Cup qualification protest.

FIFA is due to review Nigeria's petition on 16 February. The complaint alleges that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) fielded six ineligible players during the 2026 World Cup African play-offs last year.

For the Super Eagles, any confirmed international participation will depend on the outcome of that decision.

The DR Congo national team, known as the Leopards, beat Nigeria 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the African play-off final last November.

The proposed Jordan match will mark the first senior international meeting between the two countries and will be part of Jordan's preparations for their historic debut at the 2026 World Cup.

Nicknamed “The Chivalrous Ones”, Jordan have been drawn into a challenging group that also includes Algeria and Austria as well as defending champions Argentina.

Meanwhile, according to the Tehran Times, the Iran Football Federation is planning two friendly matches in March against Nigeria and Costa Rica. Both matches are reportedly scheduled for March.

Nigeria's participation in these fixtures depends on FIFA's decision regarding the qualification protest against DR Congo.

The decision could have a significant impact on the Super Eagles' immediate international schedule and their prospects for the 2026 World Cup.
