2027 elections: Umahi urges Southeast to adopt strategy, supports Tinubu, Nwifuru

Minister of Works, David Umahi (Senator) on Tuesday declared that the Southeast geopolitical zone will overwhelmingly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Francis Enwifuru of Ebonyi State in the 2027 general elections.

Umahi said the political interests of the region are better protected through unity, strategy and constructive national engagement rather than emotions.

The Minister spoke at his country home in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, while welcoming political, religious and community groups who paid him Christmas tributes.

Addressing the visitors, the former governor of Ebonyi State said the Southeast must be realistic and strategic in its political choices, noting that President Tinubu has demonstrated commitment to the development of the region through major infrastructure projects.

According to him, the Tinubu administration has made solid investments in the Southeast citing the Second Niger Bridge, Enugu-Onitsha (Nenevi) Road, Owerri-Aba Road and other federal highways across the region.

“We are talking about real projects, not social media sentiments,” Umahi said, describing the infrastructure development as evidence of the sector’s inclusion at the federal level.

He said such projects represent the true dividend of national unity, noting that, “The road to Onitsha is Biafra. The Second Niger Bridge is Biafra. These are the Biafra we are looking for, not the Biafra of emotions.”

Umahi stressed that Nigeria is based on a tripod structure and warned against actions that could weaken any part of the country. Acknowledging the historical marginalization of the Southeast, he said progress could only be achieved through knowledge, political strategy and active participation in national affairs.

He said, “We can never win by emotions or hatred. We can only win by strategy. When it is our turn to be president, we must be wise enough to put ourselves in the right position.”

The minister also urged Southeast residents across the country to abide by the law, respect the cultures of their host communities, and conduct themselves with humility and courage.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us. No one should intimidate us, but we must respect the laws and cultures of wherever we live,” he said.

Umahi concluded by assuring his visitors that the Southeast is now better represented at the federal level, calling on the region to give massive electoral support to President Tinubu and Governor Enwifuru in 2027.
