The government-supported e-taxi service of Lagos State, Lagrid, has taken another step towards a cleaner Transport Future with a rollout of 100 electric vehicles (EVS), which is expanding its fleet in time for the busy amber season.
This step indicates a deep commitment to permanent urban dynamics at a time when Nigerian cities are struggling with increasing emissions, crowds and affordable public transport.
In the Media Day held in the PR of Ulausa, Effeeni Abraham, Lagride, and in the Media Day held, the e-domination deployed as part of the infection of Lagos to global standards. Abraham said, “In a hub like Dubai, government-supported e-taxis has set pace on security, ability and reliability. Lagos is now moving decisively in the same direction,” Abraham said.
Lagride Executive Director Adeniyi Saliu tied EV perfection directly from the comprehensive economic and environmental point of view of the Lagos state. He pointed to low waiting time, reduce emissions and improve credibility during the Shikhar Yatra. He also insisted that the program is designed to generate thousands of jobs in vehicle operations, maintenance and driver ownership routes.
Clean energy, strong discipline
The operating model of the lagride gives huge emphasis on maintenance and data-operated performance. Vehicles undergo preventive servicing, diagnostics and quality parts supported by continuous driver training. According to Saliyu, this discipline will make a difference for Lagos travelers: “Impact will not only be in new vehicles on the roads, but in culture that works on them high standard every day.”
The new EVS created for the use of the city can cover more than 333 kilometers per charge and reach the operating readiness within 30 minutes under rapid charging. With charging stations spreading in Lagos, vehicles are expected to be constantly available to the drivers to be low moving costs and Lagos residents offering a cool, emission-free ride.
Driver empowerment in core
Beyond the vehicles, Lagride is introducing new financing models for low obstacles for drivers. With the partner banks offering, “drive to Oning” and “Drive to Creese” plans, are designed to help drivers to create equity while maintaining permanent income. By combining economic empowerment with cleaner transport, the purpose is to create a virtuous cycle of better livelihood and better service quality.
Media Day attracted the senior government and institutional figures, which outlines the state level support behind the initiative. The attendees included General Chukuvemeka Udaya (RTD), Senior Special Advisor to the Government's Relations and Business Development Chairman, Dig Adeleke Edinka (RTD), and Engineer Gare, head of compliance and enforcement.
For Lagos, push to scale electric taxis only represents more than the expansion of fleet – this is a test case how clean energy solutions can be embedded in Africa's most populous city, marrying environmental benefits with economic opportunities.
