Ebola: There is no case in NCDC Nigeria, increases surveillance


The Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that there is no case of Ebola virus in Nigeria, and urged citizens to be cautious and cautious.

The Center said in its public advisor on Friday that Abuja had two recent suspicious cases of viral hemorrhage fever, but both conducted a negative test for Ebola and Marburg virus.

“We are currently testing samples for other viral hemorrhagic fever such as Lasa fever and dengue fever. The most recent case included a passenger who, after returning to Nigeria from Kigali, immediately introduced himself to a hospital in Abuja when he felt identity.

The Center said, “His decision to jointly report with the vigilance of the attending physician and hospital team ensured that our public health system immediately became active and the risk for the public was minimized”, the Center said.

Ebola virus disease (EVD), earlier known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a serious, often fatal disease caused by the Ebola virus, with a deadly rate of 25–90%. There are 5 different species of this virus: Bundibugio, Reston, Tai One, Sudan, and Zaire (responsible for the current case in DRC).

The NCDC appreciated the action of the passengers and urged all the Nigerians to follow the same. “When you feel unwell, especially after traveling, look for early care. Doing so protects you, your family and your community”, it insists.

Meanwhile, NCDC stated that it has activated multi-disciplinary cooperation with federal and state health officials, strengthened monitoring on entry points, has separation/healing facilities on alert, and has to stop the supply of important transition-infections and related matters management.

The Center further stated that it is currently colliding and analyzing all relevant data and information to improve the response, saying that its national reference laboratories remain on standby to provide rapid tests, and public health teams are ready to operate contact tracing if needed.

“Beyond these immediate stages, the NCDC is also working with states and partners to strengthen all 36 states and FCT. In this, upgrade isolation facilities, strengthen IPC training for healthcare workers, conduct simulation exercises for healthcare workers, and ensure a clear passage to read the medical counterparts if necessary.

Therefore, NCDC urged Nigerians to practice good hand hygiene, wash hands with flowing water or use alcohol-based sanitisers, avoid contact with symptomatic individuals-no one should touch anyone with unexplained fever, bleeding, vomiting, or diarrhea.

Reduce animal-man-human risk, avoid exposure to fruit bats, monkeys or apes; Handle animals with gloves and protective clothing; Ensure that animal products are well cooked before eating. Avoid exposure to body fluids – including blood, vomiting, saliva, urine, or other fluids from suspicious or confirmed cases. • Seek immediate help if a person develops symptoms with history of travel in affected countries, call 6232 or call the state ministry to the hotline for guidance. Avoid rumors: trust official and authorized sources.
