Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized the previous administration for neglecting major infrastructure projects in Abuja, accusing them of failing in their responsibilities towards the capital.
Speaking during the commissioning of the completed engineering infrastructure in Vuye District on Tuesday, Wike challenged previous leaders to produce evidence that they have done more for the FCT than the current administration under President Bola Tinubu.
“I challenge anyone to name any administration since the creation of the FCT that has done more than what we are doing so far,” Wike said. “If there is anyone, let them speak now or remain silent.”
Vicky said work on many of the projects being inaugurated had already been completed in 2009, but were abandoned due to non-payment to contractors.
He credited President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for prioritizing the completion of these projects.

He said, “This contract was awarded in 2009. That is 16 years ago. Was Tinubu president then? Yet it was abandoned until now. We have changed the story.”
Wike announced that to highlight the administration's comprehensive development efforts, the unveiling of completed projects will continue with a 20-day showcase of achievements in the education sector.
He listed some of the projects, which include 12 new roads, solar powered streetlights under the “Light Up Abuja” initiative, access roads to Mabushi Bus Terminal, expansion of water supply to satellite towns, and construction of a 600-bed hostel for the Nigerian Law School in Bwari.
FCT Minister of State Maria Mahmood said the Vuye project reflects the administration's commitment to providing infrastructure that benefits residents.
He said, “Each milestone is a promise fulfilled. With the doubling of roads and completion of abandoned sites, the FCT is working again.”
Wike also pledged political support for candidates in the FCT who are aligned with President Tinubu, indicating major political changes ahead.
“Those of you who are contesting and supporting the President, be assured of my support. If you are with Asiwaju, you have my support,” he said.
He said the renewed efforts in the FCT focus on implementation and service delivery, compared to what he described as inaction by the previous administration.
“This is a leadership that is committed to delivering results. Let the opposition see that the FCT is working,” Wike said.
