A'ibom PDP official rejects vote of confidence on former chairman

Legal Adviser and member of the Akwa Ibom State PDP Caretaker Committee, Enoch Enoch has recently slammed the vote of confidence passed by the wards and chapter officers of the Umbrella Party on the then state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Anikan Akpan, describing it as amusing.

In an interview with our correspondent in Uyo, Enoch said the act was ridiculous and the last kick of a dying horse.

“It is very ridiculous and ridiculous that after being dismissed for misconduct, Annikan Akpan induced the Ward and Chapter officers to hastily sign a prepared document which he called a vote of confidence.

“Why didn't they pass it before dissolving them? They know the truth, but are instigated by disgruntled elements to ridicule and destabilize the state PDP.”

According to him, “The Igwat Umoren-led EXCO is the legitimate, legal and recognized leadership structure of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State.

“We do not need a vote of confidence because legitimacy does not require a vote of confidence.”

He described the recent tantrum on the State Party Caretaker Committee as a losing battle, while also advising those whom he described as disgruntled elements to save face from further embarrassment.

He said that due to the provisions of the constitution of the PDP and the circumstances that necessitated the dissolution of the Annikan Akpan-led authorities, the Igwat-led Caretaker Committee were recognized authorities of the PDP, cautioning members to resist the efforts of mischievous elements to proceed into a losing battle.

He said PDP is the only political party that has strong structure and electoral network across the state and many of those who defected to APC, against their will, are fundamentally PDP and will vote for PDP when there are weaknesses.

He described the dissolution of the Annikan Akpan-led EXCO as legal and caretaker committee as a fresh breath of fresh air in the state PDP.
