Mobile Money Agents to Celebrate Decade of Financial Inclusion Impact in Gombe

The Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMBAN) is set to celebrate ten years of advancing financial inclusion and grassroots banking services across the country.

This comes as AMMBAN is set to hold its 9th National Conference and 10th Anniversary Celebration in Gombe State on November 12 and 13, 2025.

Based on progress, partnership and empowerment, the event is expected to bring together mobile money agents, fintech partners, regulators, law enforcement agencies and financial institutions to reflect on a decade of achievements in advancing Nigeria’s financial inclusion goals.

Acting National Chairman of AMMBAN, Dr. Obioha Oti, at a pre-conference press briefing in Lagos, said the celebration would serve as a reflection on the association’s journey and an affirmation of its commitment to deepening access to financial services across the country.

Oti said, “This pre-conference is not just another event; it is a celebration of vision, resilience, partnership and progress, the same values that have sustained Amman through a decade of growth and service to Nigeria's financial inclusion ecosystem.”

Since its inception, AMMBAN has been instrumental in bridging the gap between the formal financial sector and the millions of unbanked Nigerians. Its members, who work as agents for banks and mobile money operators, have expanded financial access to underserved areas, enabling digital payments, savings and financial transactions in both rural and urban communities.

Oti, who was represented by the Acting Vice President, Alhaji Yusuf Adeyemo, said AMMBAN’s ten-year journey is a story of resilience and innovation, driven by ordinary Nigerians who have become key players in the country’s financial services ecosystem.

He said, “Our agents have been the foot soldiers of financial inclusion, bringing banking closer to the people and supporting the cashless policy of the Central Bank. What we have achieved in ten years shows that agency banking is not just a business, it is a national service.”

As part of preparations for the Gombe festival, AMMBAN announced a new wellness initiative for its members through a strategic partnership with Buildbay, a property and investment solutions firm.

Through this collaboration, members will have the opportunity to acquire land and earn passive income, which is a major step in AMMBAN's efforts to empower its members beyond their daily business operations. “We are opening a new chapter in AMBAN’s history that goes beyond agency banking and touches the lives of our members. Through our partnership with Buildbay, we want our agents to become proud landowners and investors in their future,” said Ott.

To demonstrate its commitment, AMMBAN promised to financially support the first 200 registered members who expressed interest in the Buildbay initiative, and contributed a portion of the payment to show solidarity. “We want our members to know that when we say we care about your well-being, we mean it,” Ott said.

The Acting Chairman expressed his deep appreciation to all the sponsors and partners including MoneyPoint, FuelBase, Wema Bank, Jazz Bank and Paga for their continued cooperation and support towards the upcoming National Conference. He also thanked the regulatory bodies and security agencies that have worked with the association over the years to strengthen trust and security in the agency banking ecosystem. “Your unwavering support reflects confidence in our mission to advance financial inclusion and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy,” he said.

Speaking at the conference, Oti said the Gombe conference will serve as a platform for dialogue, recognition and renewal, an opportunity for members and stakeholders to assess progress made in ten years and discuss strategies for the next decade of inclusive growth.

“Our 9th National Conference and 10th Anniversary Celebration will be a landmark event that will showcase our collective achievements, renew our sense of purpose and strengthen our unity as the voice of mobile money and bank agents across Nigeria,” he said.

The association urged all members to attend the conference, stressing that AMMBAN remains a vital pillar in Nigeria’s financial ecosystem, connecting millions of people to formal banking and digital services.
