CUPP lauds Tinubu on road projects, urges continuity

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for impressive progress in road infrastructure, and called on the Federal Government to maintain stability in the sector.

The praise was contained in a statement issued by CUPP National Spokesperson, Mark Adebayo, in Abuja on Saturday, following an inspection of the Abuja-Lokoja-Benin Road and other ongoing projects.

According to the coalition, a recent assessment of several sectors of the economy over the past two years has rated the Tinubu administration as “very good” in road infrastructure. CUPP steering committee members said they set out on an independent tour to verify the claims made by the government and separate facts from propaganda.

The team, which included Barrister Emeka Benjamin Igwe, Mrs. Grace Ishaku, Dr. Abayemi Runsewe, Ambassador Abba Lewis and Adebayo, said he was impressed with the level of work witnessed at the project sites.

The statement said: “Initially we may have tried to play down the All Progressives Congress government's claims of achievements, especially in infrastructure development, but the impression we received in this first phase of our nationwide inspection was very positive.”

Committee member Barrister Benjamin Igwe said the group “can safely conclude” that President Tinubu has performed “very well” on road infrastructure, attributing the progress to the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.

CUPP described Umahi as “undoubtedly the most hard-working minister in the current administration”, citing the number and scale of ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects.

It commended the minister for sending a delegation to Essan community in Kacha Local Government Area of Niger State to condole with residents following the recent tanker explosion and assure them of speedy repairs – something the group described as “purposeful leadership”.

The coalition said contractors are active on several major routes and implementing new construction methods, including concrete and iron road technology, to increase durability. Ongoing works highlighted include the doubling of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway (Phase 1), Benin-Shagamu-Ore Road, Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and Abuja-Lokoja-Benin Road.

CUPP said it was planning further inspection visits before the end of the year and would continue to provide feedback and recommendations.

“If the government continues to apply the current energy and resources into Nigeria’s road network, the bad road syndrome that has long been a nightmare for the country will become a thing of the past,” the group said.

While praising the administration, the coalition also reminded the government that Nigerians have the right to inspect public projects without harassment, describing such investigations as part of civic responsibility.
