….Wabara says BOT did not recommend caretaker committee

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday reacted swiftly to his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing PDP members who supported his expulsion at the party’s 2025 national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State as “drunks”.

Recall that the party had announced the expulsion of the FCT Minister along with former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and others.

Those expelled include National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu; Omar Bature, National Organizing Secretary; Adeyemi Ajibade; Mohammed Abdulrahman; And Mao Ohuaweaves.

The party also expelled Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turner and Dan Orbih.

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, said in a statement that “they went to Ibadan in November to start Dirty December.”

According to the FCT Minister, “When people decide to start their Dirty December in November, one cannot ignore what comes out of their mouths.”

The expulsion came as some members of the party believed that the FCT minister was at the forefront of a plan to destabilize the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike was also in controversy after his public announcement that he would work to ensure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 despite being head of the PDP.

It would also be recalled that Wike on Friday issued a statement warning his loyalists to stay away from the party conference in Ibadan.

According to him, “They gathered in Ibadan to socialize, have fun and get drunk; they are free to say whatever they want.”

However, his expulsion has led to sharp divisions at the top level of the PDP, as notable party stakeholders have distanced themselves from party action.

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in a post on his

Fintiri, who is the Chairman of the National Conference Organizing Committee (NCOC), said he believed the decision was not in the best interest of the party, adding “I will not be party to any effort that could plunge the PDP into a never-ending crisis.

“As a loyal party member, my position is clear: I stand for peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration. I believe that peace and reconciliation is the only way forward for our great party.”

Fintiri, therefore, called on all stakeholders to work towards healing divisions within the party and strive for unity and solidarity. As a party member, I am committed to supporting efforts that promote peace, stability and progress within the PDP.

“I want to reiterate that my position is guided by the desire for peace and reconciliation, and I will continue to work to achieve this goal.”

In a related development, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutafwang has also distanced himself from the expulsion of Nyesom Wike and other PDP members.

The governor, in a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Communications, Gyang Bere, explained that the issue of expulsion was never discussed either in the PDP Governors Forum nor in the National Executive Committee (NEC) before the motion was tabled.

“The Acting Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutafwang has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike; the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose; Samuel Anyanwu as well as other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)”; The statement said.

He stressed that this proposal in no way represents his stance on the matter.

The governor described the move as “ill-advised and ill-timed, especially at a time when the PDP is grappling with internal challenges that need to be handled carefully and strategically. According to him, such an action could further widen the rift within the party rather than aid in efforts to restore stability.”

He stressed that expelling key party leaders at this critical time would be counterproductive to the broader objective of reconciliation.

Mutafwang also urged stakeholders to focus on actions that promote unity, build trust and strengthen cooperation within the party.

Reiterating his commitment to a united PDP, Governor Muttafwang called for dialogue, patience and collective responsibility among members.

He expressed confidence that only through inclusive engagement can the party rebuild, reestablish itself and regain its position ahead of future political engagements.

Meanwhile, PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman Adolphus Wabara also distanced himself and the BOT from the purported report of the BOT Conciliation Committee circulated in some sections of the media.

Wabara also wrote on his

According to him, “BOT remains unwavering in its support for the holding of the Optional National Conference scheduled from Saturday, 15th to Sunday 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for the purpose of electing a new set of leaders to steer the affairs of the party in the next four years.

“This position is guided by the decision of the Supreme Court which affirmed the supremacy of a political party in the conduct of its internal affairs.”

He said, “The BOT rejects any suggestion of a caretaker committee for the party. Such an idea cannot be entertained because the board and certainly the PDP have irrevocably decided to hold an alternative national conference which is within the ambit of internal affairs of the party over which the courts have no jurisdiction.”

BOT therefore urges party members to remain committed and focused towards the success of the Elective National Conference.
