Kwara State Government has assured that it will continue to work closely with FIDA and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the protection of the rights of women, children and other citizens.
The Attorney General of Kwara State and Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Suleiman, gave the assurance at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Kwara State Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The Attorney General, who spoke through the Ministry's Deputy Director, Civil Litigation, Mansurat Bello Alaa, pledged that the government will synergize with stakeholders to ensure that laws and policies align with international best practices and promote the rights and interests of women and children.
Justice Suleiman further noted that the present administration under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazzaq will continue to provide an enabling environment for women, children and other citizens to realize their full potential.
Commending FIDA for its commitment to promoting justice, equality and human rights, the Commissioner reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to ensuring free access to justice in the State.
FIDA Nigeria Chairperson, Funke Balogun, in her remarks highlighted the organisation’s commitment to protecting, promoting and defending the rights of women and children across Nigeria.
She explained that since she took charge, the organization has continued its fight for women's rights, having conducted more than 10 training workshops on leadership skills and key areas of FIDA's mandate.
Seye Thompson of Seye Thompson Attorneys, in her keynote address themed, “Reclaiming the Digital Space: Technology Facilitates Ending Gender-Based Violence”, stressed the need to focus on women facing domestic violence and consider redress in law.
