The Kano State Police Command has announced stringent security measures across the state ahead of the 2026 New Year celebrations, including intensified patrolling and a complete ban on fireworks and knockouts.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Wednesday after a follow-up meeting with operational commanders to review security arrangements for the festival. After the meeting, police described it as a successful security operation during the Christmas celebrations.

According to the command, the New Year security plan focuses on visibility-enhanced policing, round-the-clock patrolling, traffic control and intelligence-led operations. Public places, entertainment centers and other areas attracting large crowds have been adequately strengthened to prevent disturbance of peace.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity or activities to security agencies. Police also issued a series of safety advisories warning against reckless driving, underage driving, unauthorized horse riding and carrying suspicious objects.
Furthermore, the command announced a strict ban on fireworks and knockouts, stressing that violators will be dealt with as per law.
Members of the public were encouraged to report emergencies or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command's emergency lines.
The Command also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of residents and assured the public of its commitment to maintain peace and security during the New Year celebrations. The command also wished the residents a peaceful and prosperous New Year 2026.
