The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said 35 Filipinos who were victims of a scam in Cambodia have returned safely to the Philippines.
“Their safe return was achieved through the coordinated efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh and the Migrant Workers Offices in Singapore and Thailand,” the DMW said in a statement.
The returnees arrived in three batches at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on December 31. Two batches took off from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, while the third batch passed through Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
“The DMW reiterates its warning to Filipinos to remain vigilant against fraudulent job offers, especially those shared on social media platforms,” the agency said.
It urged job seekers to verify the validity of overseas employment opportunities and ensure that they are properly approved and registered with the DMW before accepting any offers.
The agency noted that the repatriation is part of an ongoing inter-agency effort to assist Filipino victims of illegal recruitment, human trafficking and scam center operations. – Adrian H. Halili
