Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfuwang has resigned from membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Ampang West, Mangu LGA of Plateau State, Mutafwang said he would go to a party that would enable him to provide “objective leadership” to the people.

“I am writing to formally inform you about my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect. I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process,” the letter reads.
“I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members and supporters at all levels during my tenure in the party and am grateful for the confidence reposed in me.
BusinessDay had earlier reported that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had announced the alleged defection of the Plateau State governor at a stakeholders meeting in Abuja last month.
The claim immediately sparked political controversy in the state, drawing reactions from party stakeholders and rife with speculation about the governor's political future.
However, the Plateau State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) rejected the claim, insisting that the governor remains a bona fide member of the party. According to the PDP, the Governor has not submitted any formal letter of resignation as required as per the party's constitution, stressing that without such official communication, any claims of defection are baseless.
