AFCON: Despite loss, BUA's Rabiu vows to give $500,000 to Brave Super Eagles

BUA Group founder and chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu has said he will fulfill his pledge of $500,000 to Nigeria's Super Eagles despite their 4-2 defeat to Morocco on penalties.

The billionaire philanthropist made the promise after Wednesday night's cracker that sent the Moroccans into the final as they attempt their first AFCON trophy in 50 years.

“To our brave Super Eagles,” Rabieu posted on Twitter almost immediately after the match.

“You fought whole-heartedly, gave your all and showed true courage and determination on the field. Although it was not meant to be like that this time, you have made every Nigerian proud.

“Sometimes, even our best efforts don't bring the results we hope for, but the spirit, passion and unity you showed is what really counts. You left everything on the field, and that's worth celebrating.”

The industrialist said he is going ahead with the gift despite the loss to reward the Eagles' hard work and dedication.

He said, “As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still stepping forward to complete the pledge of $500,000 USD. This is in recognition of your hard work, dedication, and the happiness you have brought to our country.” “Keep your heads held high, Super Eagles – the experience, lessons and spirit will lead to even greater success next time. Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories.”
