Rivers Labor Party Chairman, Hilda Dokubo, has appealed for peace and stability, and urged politicians to put the interest of the state above personal ambitions.
Dokubo spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the INEC stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
He described the recent impeachment notice against Governor Siminalai Fubara as a distraction from governance and development in the state.
According to him, Rivers should focus on reconstruction after six months of emergency rule characterized by instability, hardship and limited development.
“The only person who can give an impeachment notice to the Governor is someone who believes he is above the state.
“I am troubled and disappointed because just as Rivers is emerging from months of instability, it is being dragged back into turmoil,” he said.
Dokubo urged political leaders and stakeholders to stop creating distractions and focus on adding value to the lives of Rivers people.
He said, “This is our only home. If there is no peace here, we cannot sleep, work, or keep our children safe. Nobody wants that.”
He praised the four Assembly members who reconsidered their stand on the impeachment notice and urged others to follow their example.
Dokubo called for a permanent solution, warning against “political solutions” that only create deeper problems for the state.
He said, “Let us live in peace. Let Governor Fubara do his job and let it be done, now that we are starting to see governance.”
