Kano unity prayers signal political thaw as Yusuf seeks peaceful end to emirate dispute



Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has pointed to the renewed cooperation among political leaders in the state as evidence that ongoing prayers for peace and unity are beginning to yield results, while assuring that the long-running emirate crisis will be resolved through dialogue.

The governor, who spoke during the second special prayer session and Quran recitation at the Government House which brought together 4,444 readers, described the increased participation of key stakeholders in state activities as a positive sign for the stability of Kano.

According to a statement issued by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf's spokesperson specifically cited the presence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barou Jibrin at recent government functions as a reflection of improved political harmony.

He expressed hope that continued spiritual engagements will pave the way for an amicable resolution of the Kano Emirate leadership dispute, stressing that any solution must be acceptable to all parties.

The Governor also used the occasion to call for an end to “do or die” politics, and urged political actors to adopt tolerance and mutual respect in the overall interest of the state. He reaffirmed his administration's determination to curb thuggery, noting that youths involved in violence should be engaged in productive enterprises for the development of Kano.

Yusuf said his government would continue to prioritize people-oriented projects aimed at improving living conditions across the state, and commended clerics and reciters for devoting their time to pray for peace and prosperity.

In his remarks, Barau lauded the Unity Prayer Initiative, saying it provides a model for other states seeking lasting peace and national unity.

Speaking at the event, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, urged residents to remain steadfast in prayers for the progress of the state and the country.
The prayer meeting is part of a series of spiritual programs launched by the Kano State government amid efforts to ease political tensions and promote reconciliation between major power groups.
