Adamawa launches CBT-based recruitment for 5,000 teachers to boost education sector

The Adamawa State Government has commenced Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the recruitment of 5,000 post-primary school teachers across the state, a major step in its drive to strengthen the education workforce and promote competency-based employment.

The exercise, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, is being conducted in phases in the three senatorial zones, starting from the Central Zone. The first stage took place at Ramat Government College, Yola, where hundreds of applicants sat for the examination.

Education Commissioner Garba Pela, who inspected an examination centre, expressed satisfaction over the process and described it as transparent and reliable. He said that the state government is committed to institutionalizing meritocracy and accountability in public sector recruitment.

“This is the first time in the history of Adamawa State that job applicants are required to apply, write an examination, undergo an interview and undergo screening before employment,” Pella said. “Gone are the days when employment letters were issued on the basis of personal relationships. The process is completely based on merit.”

He said the government appointed independent consultants to manage the process, underscoring its commitment to eliminate nepotism and ensure fairness.

According to Nuhu Abdullahi, a software developer at Satlink Consultant Services, the firm that manages the CBT platform, more than 18,000 candidates registered for the exercise.

Co-Chairman of the Recruitment Committee and Acting Executive Secretary of the Post-Primary School Management Board, Birsan Penuel, confirmed that the initiative is in line with the education reform agenda of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, which aims to address the shortage of qualified teachers and improve learning outcomes.
