AFCON: 'One of our best performances' – Oliseh hails Super Eagles after Uganda win

Former Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has expressed satisfaction with Nigeria's performance following their 3-1 victory over Uganda in the final Group C match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Tuesday.

A goal from Paul Onuachu and two from midfielder Raphael Onyedika powered a much-changed Super Eagles team to victory in Morocco and sealed a perfect group-stage campaign for Nigeria.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chele made several changes to the team that had defeated Tanzania and Tunisia in the earlier matches, and gave Onuachu the start ahead of Akore Adams.

The Trabzonspor forward repaid the confidence by opening the scoring in the 28th minute, clinically finishing Fisayo Dele-Bashiru's pass from the left, only for veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango to stop the effort from close range after two minutes.

Onyedika scored two goals in the second half to put the result beyond doubt as Nigeria topped Group C with three wins from three matches.

Commenting on the performance, Oliseh, a former international, praised the team's organization and cohesion, especially the contributions of the non-regular starters.

“I think it was one of our best performances, the way the organization was and the fact that they were not regulars,” Oliseh told Nigerian photojournalist Justina Anefiok.

The Super Eagles' victory over Uganda capped an impressive group-stage performance, with Nigeria collecting a maximum of nine points and underscoring their dominance in Group C.

Nigeria's round of 16 match is scheduled for Monday, January 5 at the FaZe Stadium – the same venue where the Super Eagles played all their group-stage matches.

They are set to face the third-placed team from Group F, with possible opponents including defending champions Ivory Coast, Cameroon or Mozambique.
