National leaders have been called on to raise the standards of citizens, a necessary step to foster personal growth, boost self-confidence and create a deeper sense of purpose throughout society.

The member representing Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency, Oke-Jo Onuakalusi, made the call while speaking at the second anniversary and thanksgiving ceremony held in Lagos.

According to Onuakalusi, “Leadership is about improving the quality of life, building capacity and development in your constituency.

“That is the only way your followers can trust you. And that is the commitment we made in Oshodi/Isolo Constituency II, and today we have done so in two years of tireless service to our constituency.

“From empowering our youth with skills and education to improving our infrastructure and providing support to those in need, I am delighted to share some of these achievements with you.

“As we strive to make a positive impact in the lives of our constituents, I express my heartfelt gratitude to those who formed the Honorable OK-Jo Movement, a vanguard for the upcoming elections in 2027.”

“Let us continue to work together towards a brighter future for our constituency, where every person has access to opportunities, resources and a chance to get ahead.

“We have installed over two hundred and fifty solar street lights, built boreholes, human capital development, health, education, grassroots sports development, empowerment, agriculture. Also, we have sponsored some of our people to South Africa, China on capacity development.”

Speaking at the venue, RCCG Cornerstone Parish, Okota, Presiding General Overseer of the World Base Assembly, Isolo, Bishop Humphrey Erumaka stressed the need for Nigerians to be united in purpose, even in assisting others.

Bishop Erumaka also called on Nigerians to rise above sentiments, tribalism and nepotism and focus on helping each other.

“We are in a time when we should not look at where you are coming from, your background or your intentions. What matters is what you have to offer and how you can help. My prayer for Onuakalusi is that God will continue to provide him with opportunities to exercise his leadership and sustain the journey forward.”

Drawing comparisons with the Biblical account of David and Saul, he said: “David remembered God and built a house for him, but Saul, despite everything he had, never remembered God. Gratitude is essential because ingratitude arises when you forget where God raised you from.”

He urged Nigerians to reflect on their beginnings and appreciate the progress God has given them.

“Many people today take God's blessings for granted because they feel entitled to it. But a heart full of gratitude acknowledges where God has raised us from, whether it is from Mushin, Ajegunle or other humble communities and celebrates his faithfulness. Gratitude reminds us that we should never forget our roots.''

On her part, the Program Director, Oke-Jo Foundation/Women Leader and Convener of Voice of Hope, Uchenna Ofomata, confirmed that the thanksgiving service was not just a spiritual gathering but a vibrant celebration of progress, with over 1500 constituents in attendance, filled with joy, worship and humility over their ground-breaking achievements.

“I can say with deep gratitude that the Thanksgiving celebration was more than a milestone. It was a testament to the remarkable achievements of Oke-Jo, which exemplifies the selfless leadership, human capital development, infrastructural development, strong commitment to community empowerment and equality and the unwavering loyalty to God and the resilient spirit of our Oshodi-Isolo community that was inspired by the two-year selfless Respects representation.

“As the founder of OK Joe Foundation, she has led transformational initiatives that uplift the vulnerable, especially women and youth in the constituency.

“One standout effort includes the Foundation’s Women and Youth Empowerment Programme, which equips participants with practical business skills in areas such as catering, fashion design and crafts, laying the foundation for sustainable entrepreneurship and economic independence,” Ofomata said.
