The Bays University, Abuja team has recorded a major academic achievement after winning the 2025 Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA) Business Leader Challenge, a highly competitive global business simulation competition, after scoring the most points for a stellar presentation in the finals.
The Bays University team was adjudged the best team in the competition held at the Nigeria British Chamber of Commerce Building in Lekki, Lagos.
With 296 points, Baze University defeated Covenant University and Thomas Adewunmi University to win the prize money of N1,000,000.
Speaking about the competition, Ijeoma Anadozi, Country Director of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, said, “We are delighted with the success of this year's competition and we congratulate the amazing teams that took part, especially the finalists and eventual winners. We would also like to thank the judges and our sponsors.”
“CIMA will be at the forefront of providing the support needed to develop future leaders in finance and business. Hosting the latest edition of CGMA Business Leader
The challenge is a proud moment for us and we are committed to engaging the youth through the challenge and helping them showcase their talent early,” Anadozi said.
The CGMA Business Leader Challenge, organized by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, is an exciting regional business competition among university students aimed at aspiring finance and business leaders recognized by CIMA, the world's leading and largest professional body of management accountants.
The competition invites teams from participating schools to tackle real-world business challenges and present their solutions to a panel of Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA designation holders) and experienced accounting, finance and business professionals.
The CGMA Business Leader Challenge provides a valuable platform for young Nigerian talents to sharpen their business acumen, strengthen their leadership and decision-making abilities, and enhance their critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, as well as showcase their potential as future finance and business leaders.
This year’s competition, which started in October, saw 60 teams from 10 universities in the country competing to win mouth-watering prizes, which included N1 million prize money, access to the CGMA Finance Leadership Programme, and an internship opportunity with a leading corporate organisation.
Given that the university remains a strong competitor in the CGMA challenges, Baze University's victory is fitting and a testament to the sustainability. In 2023, the university made it to the finals but fell short at the last hurdle. This year, the Bays University team ultimately surpassed 60 other teams.
