The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of seven Berom youths at a mining site in the Kuru District axis of Plateau State, describing the attack as heinous, barbaric and a serious threat to peace and security.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the association said the victims were murdered by armed terrorist elements while engaging in legitimate means of livelihood, stressing that the act was a direct attack on the dignity and collective survival of the Berom people.
In a statement signed by BYM National Publicity Secretary Rawang Tengwong, made available to journalists in Jos, BYM National Chairman Deliope Solomon Mwantiri said the incident was a “gross violation of the sanctity of human life and an unacceptable erosion of security within the Berom land”.
The victims were identified as Dung Giang (19), Weng Dung (26), Francis Paul (23), Samuel Peter (22), Dung Simon (28), Pam Dung (23) and Francis Marcus (15), whose deaths have left their families and communities in deep mourning.
The association also recalled an earlier attack in Gyal district on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, which left two people dead, noting that repeated attacks point to a disturbing pattern of coordinated violence in the region.
According to BYM, “The continuation of these attacks underlines the worrying deterioration of security and calls for immediate, resolute and sustained intervention by the relevant authorities”.
BYM called on the Plateau State Government, the Federal Government and security agencies to immediately investigate the killings, apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators and their sponsors, and strengthen security in vulnerable rural communities and around mining locations.
The Group reaffirmed the Association's solidarity with the affected families and its commitment to justice, peace, accountability and the protection of life and dignity of unaccompanied youth.
