Coalition welcomes Peter Obi into ADC, unites members for democratic rebirth

The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) has formally welcomed former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the development as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

National Chairman of COPDEM, Rawang Pam, said this at a press conference to welcome Obi into the party in Jos on Thursday.

Palm said Obi's decision to join the ADC was more than a political move, calling it a “statement of conscience” and a rejection of politics without principles, accountability and compassion for the public.

He said that “the ADC represented the values of integrity, inclusion and people-centred governance”, adding that Obi had in the past year actively endorsed and campaigned for ADC candidates, especially in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, Obi's reputation for prudence, transparency and fiscal responsibility is in line with the aspirations of Nigerians who want accountable leadership and a government that works for the common good.

Palm said COPDEM, as a coalition committed to democracy, social justice, rule of law and zero tolerance for corruption, sees Obi as a trustworthy partner who has consistently spoken truth to power.

He assured Obi of COPDEM's full support, claiming that over five million members of the alliance across the country were ready to support his political journey within the ADC, while over 20,000 COPDEM members had already obtained ADC membership cards.

The COPDEM chairman said Obi's alliance with the ADC strengthened democratic forces across the country and signaled the emergence of a new political culture focused on service, reconciliation and national unity.

He reaffirmed COPDEM's commitment to mobilization, civic education, voter awareness and safeguarding democratic values, stressing that collaboration and principled leadership can re-establish Nigeria on the path of progress.

Pam called on Nigerians, both domestic and diaspora, to actively participate in the democratic process, urging them to register with COPDEM and join efforts to save the country from degradation and build a just and prosperous nation.
