Defense Minister Christopher Moses has reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to education, describing it as the most powerful tool for building a strong, united and progressive Nigeria.
Musa said this while welcoming members of the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) on Wednesday during a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Ship House, Abuja.
According to the Defense Minister, sustainable national development can be achieved only through quality education which not only imparts knowledge but also builds character, discipline and responsible citizenship.

“Education goes far beyond learning in the classroom,” Moses said. “There is a need for strong collaboration between schools, parents and communities to produce well-rounded citizens who can contribute meaningfully to national development.”
He emphasized that parents and teachers play complementary roles in a child's development and described them as the “twin pillars” responsible for shaping values, character and future prospects.
“Home and classroom jointly define the moral qualities of the child,” the minister said. He called on parents to take more responsibility in guiding, informing and disciplining their children. He said that good moral values and good upbringing are indispensable for the upliftment of citizens who will have a positive impact on the society.
Musa highlighted the federal government's investment in the education sector and said the progress recorded so far is the result of collective effort. He acknowledged the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) as an important component of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), and praised its sustained and influential contribution to school development and governance across the country.
Earlier, the leader of the NAPTAN delegation, National President of the Association, Haruna Danjuma, commended President Bola Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for the Defense Minister to excel in his duties.
Danjuma described Moses' appointment as divinely inspired and said it was not a coincidence but a purposeful decision aimed at strengthening the national service and addressing Nigeria's security challenges.
He expressed confidence in the Minister's ability to deliver on his mandate, noting that his experience and leadership qualities have prepared him well for the task.
He said the Excellence Award was given to the Minister in recognition of his strategic leadership, dedication to institutional development and sustained support for initiatives that enhance national security and defense capability.
According to Danjuma, the award also reflects the Minister’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the security of the nation, noting that under his leadership, the Ministry of Defense has continued to implement policies and reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture while promoting sustainable national development.
