The Department of Energy (DOE) said it will coordinate with the Pagbilao Energy Corporation (PEC) and other concerned agencies to ensure proper provision of assistance following a fire incident at a power plant unit in Pagbilao, Quezon province, which resulted in casualties.
In a statement Sunday, Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said the agency has appointed PEC to meet the needs of all people currently hospitalized, ensuring they receive comprehensive medical attention, appropriate care and full support.
“DOE is also committed to assisting, where appropriate, in recovery efforts for both affected personnel and the power plant, ensuring that the necessary support mechanisms are in place to move toward rehabilitation, while upholding the welfare of all workers involved,” he said.
Reports said a fire broke out at Pagbilao Power Station Unit 3 on the evening of 31 October, killing one worker and injuring nine others.
In a statement, the PEC said it would continue to prioritize the treatment and care of individuals affected by the incident.
The company said the families and loved ones of the injured and deceased were immediately informed, and teams are coordinating with them to provide continuous and comprehensive medical, financial, logistical and emotional support.
As of 9 am on November 2, the condition of seven of the injured personnel is stable, while two have successfully undergone surgery and are under close observation.
“PEC reaffirms its dedication to the safety and well-being of all our people on site. We thank everyone for their compassion and support as we move forward together through this difficult period,” the company said.
