A congressman on Wednesday urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to file charges against a Senate witness who accused former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez was linked to a billion-dollar flood control scam.
In a statement, party-list representative Terry L. Ridon said the DOJ should consider filing perjury charges against the witness who accused former party-list representative Elizaldi S. Company and Mr. Romualdez's involvement.
In his affidavit in a Senate hearing on the flood control controversy, he claimed to have given suitcases of cash to Mr. Company and the former House Speaker, who threatened President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.'s administration and implicated politicians, officials, and private contractors.
“Our legislative inquiries – in both the Senate and the House – depend on the authenticity of every document presented,” Mr. Ridon said. “When fabricated evidence is used to manipulate proceedings, it is an attack not just on individuals but on Congress as well.”
