Italian tactician Enzo Maresca has left his role as Chelsea manager after 18 months in charge, with the Blues sitting fifth in the Premier League.
The 45-year-old left at the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge, less than six months after winning the FIFA Club World Cup. He also guided the Blues to victory in the UEFA Conference League during that campaign.
Maresca arrived at Chelsea in June 2024 after a successful spell in which he won promotion to the Premier League in his first season with his previous club.
He enjoyed a strong debut year at Stamford Bridge, finishing fourth in the league while lifting both the Conference Cup and the Club World Cup.
However, Chelsea have been inconsistent during the 2025/26 season and currently sit fifth in the table, 15 points behind the leaders.
Maresca's tenure ended with a record of 55 wins, 16 draws and 21 losses.
“During his time at the club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup,” Chelsea said in a statement.
“Those achievements will remain an important part of the club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contribution.
“With playing in four competitions still the key objective, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe the change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.
“We wish Enzo all the best for the future.”
Maresca's relationship with senior club officials has reportedly deteriorated in recent weeks, with rumors surging on New Year's Eve that he was considering his future at Stamford Bridge.
His departure was confirmed on New Year's Day 2026, a few days before Chelsea's visit of Manchester City on 4 January.
