FirstBank unveils 500-seat premium viewing stand at Calabar Carnival 2025

First Bank of Nigeria Limited has signed on as sponsor of the 2025 Carnival Calabar End Festival, marking the debut of the event’s first private premium seating as it deepens its support for Nigeria’s creative economy.

The lender said it will build a 500-seat premium bleacher for the festival, which will provide a safer and more comfortable viewing experience for attendees of one of Africa's largest street carnivals.

According to Olayinka Ijabiyi, the bank’s executive group head of marketing and corporate communications, the sponsorship aligns with FirstBank’s First@Arts initiative, which supports Nigeria’s creative and cultural industries.

He said the carnival reflects the institute's long-term commitment towards platforms that promote cultural expression and national unity.

“For more than 131 years, we have supported initiatives that enable self-expression, social reflection and cultural exchange,” Izabiyi said.

“Our investment in Carnival Calabar underlines our commitment to preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage while enhancing the experience of participants and spectators.”

FirstBank said the premium bleachers, described as the first of their kind at the festival, are aimed at enhancing the carnival experience through exclusive seating arrangements and improved comfort.

Chairman of the Cross River State Carnival Calabar Commission, Gabe Ona, said the partnership highlights the growing role of the private sector in supporting culture and tourism. “FirstBank’s participation enhances the quality of the carnival and strengthens its appeal to a global audience,” he said.

Carnival Calabar & Festival 2025 is being marketed by Okhama Global Limited, the official marketer of the event responsible for brand partnerships, promotions and ticket sales.

The company has worked with the Cross River State government on the festival for over a decade, helping to expand its commercial footprint and international visibility.
