The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced full preparations for the Anambra State governorship election to be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, promising to deliver a peaceful, credible and transparent process.
According to a statement by the commission, INEC Chairman Josh Amupitan gave the assurance during a high-level inspection visit to the state office of the commission in Awka, ahead of the stakeholders meeting scheduled for Monday, November 3, 2025.
“Our responsibility is to the people of this country. We are fully prepared to conduct elections that are fair, credible and reflect the will of the people,” Amupitan said, urging all stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring a seamless process.
He cautioned against “efforts by vested interests to discredit the process”, and said the commission remained focused and unwavering in fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
Providing an update on operational preparedness, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Anambra State, Elizabeth Egwu, confirmed that all non-sensitive materials had been distributed across the 21 local government areas of the state.
He also revealed that the Bimodal Voter Authentication System (BVAS) has been fully configured, tested and certified ready for deployment.
“We have left no stone unturned. From training of personnel to deployment of materials, every necessary step has been taken to ensure smooth, credible and technology-driven elections,” Egwu said.
“Generators have also been deployed to ensure uninterrupted power supply at critical locations,” he said.
Both Amupitan and Egwu stressed the importance of collaboration with political parties, security agencies, civil society groups and the media to guarantee successful elections.
“We are committed to engaging every stakeholder in this process. Transparency and partnership remain the cornerstone of our credibility,” the INEC Chairman affirmed.
As part of the readiness review, the Chairman accompanied by the National Commissioners – May Agbamuche-Mbu, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Abdullahi Zuru, Sam Olumekun, Sami Adam, Baba Bila and Sunday Aja, inspected INEC offices in Oye and Awka South Local Government Areas to assess final preparedness.
Electoral officers, Olivia Nkem (Oyi) and Orange Chinyere (Awka South) conducted the team around their facilities, and demonstrated the already batched election materials for sending to the registration areas.

During the visit, Amupitan issued a strict directive that, all election material should reach the polling units by 7:00 am, polling should start at 8:30 am without any delay, tallying should be done in the presence of party agents and the compiled results should strictly match with the BVAS records.
He assured the voters that strong security arrangements have been made for the safety of personnel, material and voters during the entire process.
With these assurances, INEC reaffirms its operational capacity, vigilance and unwavering commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process in Anambra State.
