The historic win in the International Series (IS) Philippines presented by BingoPlus has made Pinoy star Miguel Tabuena hungry for more.
And the newly-crowned IS champion has his sights set on the big league – LIV golf.
“That's the goal. We want to be there,” said Mr. Tabuena, who is now in a strong position to seek the golden ticket to LIV Golf through the IS route.
The top spot of the IS rankings at the end of 2025 will make the LIV circuit outright thanks to their four-shot victory in Sta. Elena Golf Club, Mr. Tabuena moved up to No. 2 with 210.89 points out of 48th,
He has three IS tournaments left – Links Hong Kong Open (October 30 to November 2), Moutai Singapore Open (November 6 to November 9) and PIF Saudi International (November 19 to November 22) – to gain ranking points and eventually overtake Zimbabwe's current leader Scott Vincent (318.99).
He said, “Initially I didn't have this (LIV stint) in mind. But being able to accomplish it gives me a lot of confidence. I believe in myself that I can actually win one of these competitions. And I hope I'll be able to do that next year.”
“We have three more IS events and I'm in a pretty good position to establish myself next year.”
After ruling the field and purse in the biggest golf event on Philippine soil, there was little time for Mr. Tabuena to celebrate. He left for Hong Kong on Monday to undertake the next part of his journey.
“There are still a lot of big tournaments to come so I'll keep doing the same things – just be patient, stick to my process and try to win again. That's the most important goal,” he said. , Olmin Leyba
