MotoGP: Marquez dominates Valencia sprint to take third win

Alex Marquez produced a brilliant performance to win the final sprint race of the 2025 MotoGP season in Valencia on Saturday, his third sprint win of the year.

The Ducati-Gresini rider, already second in the championship behind his brother and world champion Marc Marquez, crossed the line 1.149 seconds ahead of KTM star Pedro Acosta, with Fabio Di Gianantonio completing the podium.

Starting from second on the grid behind Marco Bezzecchi, Alex Márquez took the lead at the first turn and never looked back.

Bezzecchi was also overtaken by Acosta in the second stage and eventually dropped to fifth, although the result was still good enough to finish third in the championship, giving Aprilia a top-three finish for the first time.

Two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia continued to struggle and finished 14th, leaving him fifth behind Acosta in the final standings.

Looking ahead to Sunday's main race, Márquez said he was aiming for a weekend sweep to eventually complete a sprint-grand prix double.

“It's one of those goals that was never accomplished,” he told DAZN. “I didn't expect to win today; there were stronger riders, but we put together an almost perfect race. Tomorrow we need to take a step forward in the warm-up, and we'll see what happens.”

2024 world champion Jorge Martin finished last in 22nd place as he returned from a fractured collarbone. Last year the Valencia round was canceled due to devastating floods in the area.
