The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has formally inaugurated and incorporated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability and ethical governance in its operations.
In a statement signed on Monday by Omojola S-Oje, Director of Strategic Communications, the Fund said the inauguration marks a major milestone in its institutional development and underlines Nelfund’s commitment to building integrity-driven systems and implementing zero tolerance for corrupt practices in the delivery of its mandate.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive, Akintunde Sawyer, in his remarks reaffirmed the management’s resolve to establish strong internal controls and promote ethical conduct at all levels of the organisation.
Sawyer said the establishment of the ACTU reflects Nelfund's determination to operate transparently while ensuring public confidence in its education financing programs.
“The inauguration of ACTU is in line with NELFUND’s vision of providing equitable access to education financing while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency and public trust.
“Management encourages all employees to cooperate fully with the ACTU and continue to perform their duties with diligence, professionalism and ethical responsibility,” the statement said.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), Moses Adamu Aliyu, commended the management and staff of NALFUND for the successful establishment of the unit.
Aliyu described the ACTU as an important internal mechanism to identify systemic weaknesses, promote ethical standards and support compliance within Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
He stressed that the Unit is designed to complement rather than replace management efforts, stressing the need for continued institutional support to enable it to function effectively.
