…appreciate donors for their support
Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Wednesday said the National Library Construction Appeal Fund had reached a total of ₦25,520,708,074.35 by December 31, 2025.
The amount was donated to the Oluremi @65 Education Fund launched to support the construction of a national library complex as his birthday gift to Nigeria in September 2025.
The First Lady said the initiative was inspired by her passion for education and the need to complete the building, which was first initiated by former President Shehu Shagari in 1983 but abandoned by subsequent administrations.

The federal government had estimated that about ₦200 billion would be required to complete the project under the 2025 budget.
In a statement personally signed on Wednesday to mark the end of the donation period, Tinubu expressed his appreciation to Nigerians, family members, friends and well-wishers who generously supported the Oluremi @65 Education Fund created for the construction of the National Library in commemoration of his 65th birthday on September 21, 2025.
He reminded Nigerians and donors around the world that the donation account for the Oluremi @65 Education Fund will be closed on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
According to him, “Your support reaffirms our shared commitment towards education, preservation of knowledge and national development. I am extremely encouraged by the goodwill and unity inspired by this initiative.”
He had earlier announced that the project would be carried out under the supervision of the Education Minister, adding that any further assistance should be given through the ministry.
“To date, a total of ₦25,520,708,074.35 (Twenty Five Billion, Five Hundred Twenty Million, Seven Hundred Eight Thousand, Seventy Four Naira, Thirty Five Kobo) has been donated to the Oluremi @65 Education Fund,” she said.
However, the statement did not disclose whether the funds had been formally handed over to the authorities overseeing the national library project.
