PDP expels Wike, Fayose and others, says they are bent on destroying the party


The crisis at the People's Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Saturday with the expulsion of 11 members.

The party took the decision at the national conference, where they voted to expel former Rivers State governor and FCT minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, among others.

Others are expelled; The party's National Legal Advisers, Adeyemi Ajibade, Umar Batere, Abdul Rahman Mohammed, Mao Chuambuwa, George Turner, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amama and Dan Orbih.

The national conference, which is currently ongoing at the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan, was attended by party leaders and delegates from across the country.

Former Vice President (South) of the PDP, Olabode George, who moved the motion for the expulsion of Wike and others, declared that the decision comes against the backdrop of various activities aimed at destroying the party and activities inconsistent with the collective interest of the party.

Earlier, the Secretary of the National Conference Organizing Committee, Senator Ben Obi had asked the delegates a question on whether the conference should be an optional conference or not and also raised a motion to make it an optional conference, Mr. Emmanuel Anoyidem, SAN seconded the motion.

Similarly, Governor Seyi Makinde moved a motion calling for the ratification and affirmation of executive committees and structures in the states that were drawn up through Congress at all levels that were in compliance with the party's constitution and monitored by INEC and security agencies, with the exception of Imo, Abia, Enugu and Rivers states. Daniel Obichina Okechukwu seconded the motion.

The conference also tabled a motion to dissolve the current NWC of the party, while it equally tabled a motion to amend certain sections of the party's constitution.
