The Bauchi State Police Command on Saturday successfully arrested a kidnapper and rescued two (2) school children in Tilden Fulani, Tororo Local Government Area of the state.
In a press statement signed by the spokesman of the command, CSP Ahmed Wakil, and issued to journalists in Bauchi. Told that the kidnapped children were standing on the roadside waiting for the school bus to pick them up.
The press statement said, “Initial investigation revealed that an eyewitness saw a man on a tricycle carrying the children. Later in the day, the suspected kidnapper contacted the victims' family and demanded Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000) as ransom, using a foreign number to avoid being tracked”
After conversation, the suspect agreed to collect one million, two million naira (₦1,200,000) to be distributed around Farmer Motors Junction, Bauchi.
“Acting on credible intelligence, detectives of the division strategically cordoned off the area, leading to the arrest of the suspect at the scene of ransom collection”
He said the investigation later revealed the suspect to be Abdulkareem Tasiu, a family member of the complainant, who freely confessed to the crime and cited a long-standing grudge with his uncle as the reason for the act.
While the command, in collaboration with para-security outfits, arrested Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu of Gwalga for stealing the motorcycle of Mahmud Aliyu of Kobi Street, Bauchi.
He said investigation revealed that the suspect had stolen a white Jincheng motorcycle worth ₦100,000. as a suspect
Confessed to the crime.
The command spokesperson further said that investigation is ongoing, thereafter, the suspect will be profiled and charged in court for the established offences.
In another development, the command also arrested Abdulrahman Ibrahim of Gwalga in the state metropolis for allegedly stealing a black Haozue ladies motorcycle worth ₦250,000 belonging to Hafiz Yaro.
He said that during investigation, the suspect admitted to stealing the motorcycle, saying that he wanted to break it into parts and sell them as scrap.
The Commanding Commissioner, Sani-Omolori Aliyu directed all cases to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
Sani-Omolori urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities or possible criminal activities to the nearest police station for prompt action.
