The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying material suspected to be an explosive device during a stop-and-search operation in Saki.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the interception followed intelligence gathered by security operatives and described the operation as successful.
According to police, the truck and 42 items suspected to be explosive materials were immediately secured and taken into custody. Olayinka said the state Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation after learning of the incident.
Special officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit were deployed to handle the materials and ensure that they were safely stored for forensic investigation.

Police said forensic analysis is already underway to establish the exact nature of the items and determine their intended use, along with a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the interception.
The driver of the truck has been taken into custody and is assisting investigators as inquiries continue.
The command reassured residents that there is no cause for concern, stressing that the security agencies are in full control of the situation. It says members of the public will be kept informed as the investigation progresses.
The police also commended the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun for his continued operational support and leadership.
The interception comes amid heightened security operations in several states following the recent recovery of suspected explosive materials and illegal drugs in other parts of the country.
