The Plateau State Police Command has announced additional security deployment within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis to ensure security of lives and property during the New Year celebrations.

A statement by the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, Emmanuel Adesina, made available to journalists in Jos on Wednesday through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Alfred Alabo, said the proactive measures are aimed at preventing criminal elements from taking advantage of the festive period to disrupt peace and public order across the state.

“As part of our responsibility to protect lives and property, we have strengthened security deployment at strategic locations within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis,” Adesina said.

The police imposed a temporary ban on the operation of commercial tricycles, known as Keke Nepep, within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis from 4:00 pm on December 31, 2025 to 6:00 am on January 2, 2026, while the existing ban on commercial motorcycles remains in place.

According to the Police Commissioner, “These measures are purely for security reasons and are not intended to violate the fundamental rights of any individual or group”.

He said that public cooperation is important to achieve the desired peace.

He advised residents to remain alert and avoid places or activities that may put them at risk of attacks by anti-social elements during and after the festivities.

Adesina warned that those violating the ban would be arrested and prosecuted, urging members of the public to support the police by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
