Xiaomi released its new Android-based OS, or as you call it Android Skin, back in October 2023. Its name is Hyperos, and this MIUI was successful. In all honesty, Hyperos looked similar to MIUI, and even though it brought some positive changes, but it also introduced some negatives. There is no question that there is a very enabled piece of hyperose software, however, there is space for improvement, much. Xiaomi's hyperos has great ability, but some things need to be changed to actually grow.
I thus I am using a number of hyperos in a number of Xiaomi and Redmi devices so far. During my time with it, I have seen that I will change a lot of things. Just to be clear, some of these things, or perhaps all of them, may not have any problems for you. However, I believe that hyperos have great potential, and with only a few correct moves by Xiaomi, it can reach there. With such articles/editorials, personal opinion shines, so keep it in mind. Opinion is different. It is being said with that, let's unpack the flaws of hyperose, will we do? I will not do it in any particular order.
Third-party launcher blocked
It is one of my biggest grip with hyperos. It is the only major Android skin that completely blocks the third party launcher. Other OEMs allow you to set them, even if you are likely to stumble on issues with gestures navigation. It is thanks to Google, in fact, because it does not allow the third-party developers to reach some APIs. This has been a continuing issue. He also petitioned Google to change it.
Xiaomi, on the flip side, the option to completely block the third -party launcher was chosen for whatever reason. This was not the case with MIUI, in fact, back in the day. In fact, Xiaomi Smartphones were among those who did the best in terms of animation and everything. When Xiaomi blocked them, it was a huge change. Many enthusiasts use Xiaomi phones, so the third-party enable the launcher and allow them to shine properly.
push notifications
Yes, as if or not, push notifications are still an issue on hyperos. Well, at least the way it is set out of the box. I am having a problem with most apps. The apps are set by default on 'battery saver', which is the recommended setting. But if you issue them from their restrictions through settings (each app separate), you will not have such issues. Notifications will be able to arrive on time, as they should do.
The thing is, regular users will not know that, of course. They will not think to fly in settings and change that feature. It creates a problem, of course. They will not get direct information, which will disturb some of them. This only offends them to the company, in this case Xiaomi, which brings negative emotions towards their products. This should be an top priority for Xiaomi to convert all into honesty. Push notifications should normally work out of the box.
Lock screen notification
Push notification is not just a notification-related issue that I wanted to indicate there. Lock screen information offers another issue, well, at least for some. The way they are now set, they work in the same way what you are getting on iOS. Needless to say that it will not sit well with a lot of people. What's the issue? Okay, when you reach the lock screen, you will see your new information. Even if you don't read/open them, however, and lock the display, the next time you reach the lock screen, they will not be there.
Yes, they will still sit in the notification shed, but if you are using your lock screen frequently, it is an issue. Other Android OEMS do not do this. Notifications will sit on your lock screen until you either reject them or open them, as if they will be in the notification shade. This discrimination between the notification shade and the lock screen is completely unnecessary, and I hope Xiaomi will get rid of it in the near future.
Status bar icon
Xiaomi can also improve the status bar on hyperos. When this comes, there are many different annoyance. The first one has to do the notification with the icon. By default, Xiaomi limits you to a single app notification icon in the top-left corner. You can change it, however, and 3 apps can enable the notification icon. If you have more than 3 notifications from different apps, only three will appear the most recently.
Originally for every other Android OEM, many apps allow for the notification icon as there may be fit there. This does not limit you in the way that is the way to do things. Not only the problem is that Xiaomi limits it by default to an icon, but the fact that you cannot enable more than three icons. This is just a completely unnecessary change that Hyperose brought to the table, which was not an issue on MIUI.
On top of that, it would be good if the hyperose will allow users to dig some of the bar icons. For example, the Bluetooth icon is there all the time, which is unnecessary. Many people keep Bluetooth at all times for their smart watches, earbuds or any other items. If this is all the time, there is no need to stay there at all times for that icon. It would be good if we can remove it and just forget about it.
Home screen adaptation
Hyperos offers a lot of adaptation, it does. However, there is still space for improvement. I specifically decided to focus on the home screen. Why? Well, there are many upgrade that Xiaomi can make here that will benefit users. First and most important, it would be good if we can use icon packs from Google Play Store. We are unable to use the third-party launcher, so there is actually no way to set an icon pack. Many other Android OEMs allow such steps in their stock launchers, so there is no reason for Xiaomi.
At that top, it would be great to allow users to select between greater grid size options. Now the options are very limited. This is an issue with almost every other Android OEM, though. Then the app dock row on the home screen. Some users choose not to use it at all, so it would be good if we can remove it completely and there is a similar canvas on the home screen.
Accelerated togle
Xiaomi can also improve quick togle screen. This reminds us of iOS, but there is no problem here. Unlike most other Android skin, there is no separate settings here. There is a togle, but it is a part of all other togles. You can move it around and set it where you want, but it is not separate, it is not sufficiently comfortable. Many people are used to launch settings from there, so it would have been different if it was different.
Above her, there are only two big toals, and you cannot change it, unfortunately. The only large toglers you receive are for WiFi and mobile data. For example, you cannot set a screen rotation togle, or a set for Bluetooth. It would be good if Xiaomi enables it and allowed users to adapt the quick togle screen properly.
Counting of a annoying 10-second count
Timeout Xiaomi is forcing its users when it comes to Hyperose when it comes to Hyperose. So, basically every time you move forward and change a more advanced setting, like an accessibility setting, for example, you will get a warning pop-up. This is normal, isn't it? Yes, it is, every OEM does. However, it is not normal, the 10-second count is counted. Xiaomi does not allow you to allow or reject anything until 10 seconds have passed. This is probably applied to give you enough time to read through warnings. However, the first time you have seen it, you don't really need to read it again through it. You really know what you want to do, so that the countdown becomes really annoying. If Xiaomi did only once after setting its device, it makes sense. But no, in hyperos, you get it every time a more advanced setting changes.
