Yobe recruits 948 teachers to strengthen basic education

Yobe State Government has recruited 948 primary school teachers as part of efforts to address manpower shortage and strengthen the basic education system of the state.

Acting Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Umaru Hassan Babayo, disclosed this after a meeting with Governor Mai Mala Buni in Damaturu, the state capital.

Babayo said most of the newly appointed teachers had previously worked as volunteers in public schools without formal employment. He said the recruitment process was aimed at filling the existing gap in the teaching workforce in primary schools in the state.

“The board is organizing workshops to enhance the teaching skills of new teachers for effective and efficient knowledge delivery,” Babayo said. He also urged the teachers to justify the government's faith in them through dedication and commitment to duty.

According to him, SUBEB will increase monitoring and inspection to ensure productivity and accountability in the system.

Governor Buni while appreciating the efforts of the Board directed that merit and competency should guide the recruitment process.
